Last night we went along to see ‘An Officer and a Gentleman The Musical’ as it visits the Wales Millennium Centre as part of its second tour of the UK and Ireland. Based on the award-winning movie which is now over fourty years old. This has to be one of my all-time favourite films and it truly gave me an incredible sense of nostalgia, through both the classic plot, and the toe-tapping soundtrack.

The story follows the emotional journey of Zack Mayo played by the talented Luke Baker, a fearless young officer candidate who enlists in the Navy and undergoes a gruelling training programme overseen by Gunnery Sergeant Emil Foley played by Jamal Crawford.

As the story progresses, Zack becomes good friends with fellow recruit Sid Worley, played by Paul French. During some downtime, the pair head to the local bar and meet up with Paula Pokrifki and Lynette Pomeroy, played by Georgia Lennon and Sinead Long, respectively.

The stage show boasts strong visuals with a large iron set that is cleverly used to transform the stage from an army base, the factory where the girls work and then into the local bar. it was truly mesmerizing

This musical is so much fun and extremely entertaining, featuring well-known classic 80’s songs from icons such as Madonna, Bon Jovi, Cyndi Lauper, Blondie, and so many more. You might even recognise a few classics tunes from the film…
