Write For Us.
Love Cardiff? Obsess over gigs, food, theatre, nightlife or local stories?
We’d love to hear from you.
Culture Cardiff is an independent online magazine shining a light on the people, places and events that make this city feel alive. We’re always interested in hearing from writers, photographers and creators who “get” Cardiff and want to help us tell its stories.
This isn’t about being the most experienced journalist in the room – it’s about having a real feel for the city and something interesting to say.
Who We’re Looking For
Writers – reviews, features, interviews, guides and opinion pieces
Photographers – live gig shots, event coverage, portraits and city moments
Content creators – people who can shoot short-form video (Reels/TikTok style) with a strong sense of story
Locals & students – people living, studying or working in Cardiff who really know the scene
We’re especially interested in university students and recent grads who want to build a journalism or media portfolio covering real events, venues and stories in the city.
You don’t need loads of bylines or a journalism degree. If you understand Cardiff’s culture and can communicate clearly, you’re our kind of person.
For the right people, there may be opportunities to write a recurring monthly blog or column in your area of interest (music, food, student life, local culture, etc.).
If you’re looking to move into journalism, media, content or marketing after uni, having a stack of Culture Cardiff pieces in your portfolio is a strong calling card.
What You Can Pitch
We’re especially interested in:
Gigs & music – live reviews, previews, festival coverage, scene spotlights
Food & drink – new openings, honest reviews, round-ups, neighbourhood guides
Theatre, art & culture – show reviews, festival diaries, exhibition features, interviews
Community & local stories – profiles of interesting Cardiff people, projects and indie businesses
Guides & lists – “what’s on” round-ups, seasonal guides, “how to spend a weekend in…” style pieces
We’re Cardiff-first, so pitches should have a clear link to the city or its people.
Payment & credit
We’re currently a small, independent platform, so most contributions are currently unpaid, but always fully credited with:
Your name
Bio line
Link to your social or portfolio
When we do have budget to commission paid pieces, we’ll be upfront from the start in our reply so you can decide if it works for you.
From time to time, we’re able to arrange press tickets, passes or complimentary meals for contributors covering specific events or venues. These are limited and not guaranteed, but where they’re available and appropriate, we’ll discuss this with you before you commit.
As Culture Cardiff grows, paying contributors more often is a priority – we’ll update this section as that changes.
What happens after I pitch?
We aim to respond to pitches within 7–10 days, but it may take longer during busy periods.
If we’re interested, we’ll:
Confirm the idea and angle
Discuss word count and deadline
Let you know whether it’s paid or unpaid
If it’s not quite right, we may:
Offer feedback
Suggest tweaks
